WELL KNOWN MERCED RESIDENT PASSES
Funeral services were held in Our Lady of Mercy Church Tuesday morning for Adolphe Devaurs who passes away at Mercy Hospital last Sunday morning. Internment was in the Catholic cemetery. Mr Devaurs was a native of France and was aged 73 years. He came to this country in 1878, residing in San Francisco for about four years. He then came to Merced and for several years conducted a liquor store in Sixteenth street and later was engaged in farming near El Nido. He retired about ten years ago and had since resided in this city. He was an honest and industrious man of unassuming nature and was respected and esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves a widow Sophi [Sophia] Devaurs, and five sons and two daughters - Emile, Albert, Ernest, George and August Devaurs, all residents of Merced; Mrs Louise Bordagaray of Coalinga and Mrs Clementina Migleccio of Oakland.

The 1900 census list the family living in a mortgaged home in township 2. Children are Emile 16, Louise, 14, Albert 12, Clementine 9, Ernest 6, Georgie 4 and Adrian 2. Adolphe is a saloon keeper.
The 1910 census lists the family living in their owned home at 163 Front St (16th). Adolphe is a farmer in the grain industry. Emile is 26, a 'broadender' [bartender] is a saloon, his wife Beatrice is 22, their children are Louise and Emile, aged 2 and 1 respectively. Albert is 21 a nd a rider for the store ranch, as is Ernest who is 16, then George 14, and August 12 are both in school.
