Lifelong Merced Resident Dies At 80
Merced - Funeral services for Emil Devaurs, 80, a lifelong resident who died Sunday in a local hospital will be held Tuesday 10 AM in the Our Lady of Mercy church. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. The rosary was recited last night in the Ivers and Alcorn Mission Chapel.
DeVaurs, a retired laundry operator, was born in San Francisco. He leaves four son, Carroll of Merced, Norman of San Leandro, Leslie of Santa Cruz, Duane of Lompoc; one daughter Mrs Louise Ough of Castro Valley, two sisters, Mrs Tina Migliaccio, Mrs Louise Bordagaray, both of Coalinga, four brothers, Ernst and August of Merced, Albert of Carmel, George of Clovis and nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The 1910 census lists his parents and family living in their owned home at 163 Front St (16th). Adolphe is a farmer in the grain industry. Emile is 26, a 'broadender' [bartender] is a saloon, his wife Beatrice is 22, their children are Louise and Emile, aged 2 and 1 respectively. Albert is 21 a nd a rider for the store ranch, as is Ernest who is 16, then George 14, and August 12 are both in school.
His 1918 Draft Registration lists his birthday, living at 945 18th, managing the Municipal Liquor store in Merced, his wife is Beatrice.
The 1920 census lists Emile with his wife P Beatrice, living at 945 18th Street, Merced. Their children are Louise 12 , A Emile 10, Norman 7 , E Leslie 4 and A Duane 1. Emile works as a salesman at a hardware store.
The 1930 census lists Emile as divorced, living as a lodger with the Penland family in Oakdale. He is listed as a confectioner.
The 1940 census lists Emile as divorced, living with his brother, George and wife Stella, at 135 16th street in Merced. He is a washman but normally a bartender.
