ALBERT DEVAURS
Requiem Mass will be said Monday at 9:30 am in Our Lady of Mercy church for Albert D DeVaurs, 81, of Carmel, who died Friday in a Carmel hospital.
Recitation of the rosary will be Sunday at 8 pm in the Mission Chapel of Ivers and and Alcorn Funeral home. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
Mr DeVaurs was born in Merced and was in the laundry business here for 35 years with his brother, August DeVaurs. He retired in 1955 and moved to Carmel. He was a veteran of the U S Army having served in World War I.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs Marie DeVaurs last September [December]. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Joan DeVaurs of Carmel, a sister, Mrs Louise Bordagaray of Coalinga, three brothers, Ernest and August of Merced and George of Clovis.

-The 1900 census list the family living in a mortgaged home in township 2. Children are Emile 16, Louise, 14, Albert 12, Clementine 9, Ernest 6, Georgie 4 and Adrian 2. Adolphe is a saloon keeper.
-The 1910 census lists the family living in their owned home at 163 Front St (16th). Adolphe is a farmer in the grain industry. Emile is 26, a 'broadender' [bartender] is a saloon, his wife Beatrice is 22, their children are Louise and Emile, aged 2 and 1 respectively. Albert is 21 a rider for the store ranch, as is Ernest who is 16, then George 14, and August 12 are both in school.
-WWI - Albert enlisted in the service 03 Jun 1919 from Merced. He left Brest, France 07 May 1919 and arrived in Hoboken, New Jersey 18 May 1919.
-The 1930 census lists Albert aged 39, Marie aged 27, Mabel Silva aged 17 and Gerald Devaurs aged 1. The family lives in an owed home at 1057 18th street in Merced and Albert is the proprietor of a laundry.
-1940 census list Albert, Marie and daughter Joan living in an owned home at 1061 R Street, he is a merchant.
