Ernest Devaurs
Merced - The Rosary will be said for Ernest Devaurs, 85, member of a Merced pioneer family, at 7:30 pm at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Devaurs died Thursday in a local hospital. The Mass will be said 11 am Monday in the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Devaurs, a native of Merced, was the son of Mr and Mrs Adolph Devaurs, early settlers in the area. He leaves a son, Ernest Jr of Merced, a daughter, Margaret Kowerski of Merced, a brother, August of Merced, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

His 1917 Draft registration list him as a butcher at Banks and Bedesen, wife is Jennie listed with a baby. He lived at 413 19th Street.
The 1940 census lists Ernest as a butcher living on a block on East 23rd, he was living in Planada in 1935, and his children are Ernest 22 who is a ball player for the professional Ball Longies and attended college for 4 years, and Margaret 21 who is a stenographer for the government after completing High School.
His 1942 Draft registration lists him as living at 29 E 23rd Street, wife Jennie and his employer is Louis Descalso on 16th Street.
