Johnny was about 8 years old when he and his family moved to California where he attended San Diegito High School, there he played football, went surfing at the beach. At about 15 or 16 years old he got polio and lived on a quarter of a lung in a wheel chair where he could only manage to move his arms, He liked to play chess, and was a champion of having a positive attitude. He passed right after his 18th birthday.
