Dr. Zerfas served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1947. He futhered his education at Ley School in Cambridge, England, Phillips Andover Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, at the University of Chicago and Dartmouth College in the Navy V-12 program. He and his wife, Phyllis K. Zerfas, M.D., owned and operated their own family medical practice from 1947 to 1986.
Dr. Zerfas was a member of St. John Lutheran Church; Psi Upsilon Fraternity; 50 year member of the Indiana State Medical Society and a 50 year member of the Marion County Medical Society. He also served as a Republican precinct committeeman for several years.
A Memorial Service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. Private family inurnment will take place at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery.
Dr. Zerfas is survived by his wife, Phyllis K. (Catt) Zerfas, M.D. of Indianapolis; sons, Bryan L. Zerfas and David C. Zerfas, both of Orlando, Florida; daughters, Rebecca A. Vancil and Suzanne K. Miller, both of Indianapolis; two grandsons and two granddaughters.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
*** Dr. Zerfas's cremated remains were disinterred from St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery and later placed in a niche at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana along with his wife, Dr. Phyllis K. Zerfas, M.D. ***
