Mr. Sullivan was born on March 31, 1916, in Greene County and was one of 11 children born to the late Arthur Cleveland and Ida Bell Shifflett Sullivan.
He is survived by one sister, Ruth Sullivan of the Charlottesville area; and a brother, Meredith Sullivan of Waynesboro.
Ellis was married to the late Virginia Sullivan McCown and also to Ann Shifflett Sullivan.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in Guadalcanal in 1944 and held a lifelong passion for playing the banjo. Mr. Sullivan leaves behind two sons and four daughters.
Per Mr. Sullivan's wishes, his body was cremated and services were private for the family.
