Clara was the daughter of Simon Mesa and Luisa Sambrano. Clara had one son, Sotero, and two daughters, Ida and Rosa, with Andreas Lopez Sr., a New Almaden cinnabar miner and saloon owner. She then had two sons, Juan and Antonio, with Santiago Tobar, also a miner. Later, she had a son, Al, and a daughter Teodora with Ricardo Garcia, another Almaden miner. Clara and her days old daughter Teodora died on the same day; Clara at the age of 37 from pulmonary tuberculosis. Rosa married Antonio "Tony" Bernal in 1898 and later married Frank Pena. She was the mother of Maurice V. Bernal. John Tobar married Catherine Hernandez, his childhood sweetheart, and together they had 14 children. Tony never married and was childless. Ida married two miners, Ben Pangelina, and after his death, Frank Cruz. Have not yet discovered any information about Al.
