Valeria Ruth Broughton passed away on July 18, 2023, with her family by her side.
She was born on February 2, 1927, in La Grange, Texas to Adolph and Gabriela Bezdek and she was fondly known as "Sis" to her two younger brothers, Jerry (Jerome) and "PeeWee" "Corky" (Norbert). She loved them dearly.
Ruth grew up in Louise, Texas and later moved to Pasadena where she soon met the love of her life, Bob. They married on September 25,1948 and had two children, Jim & Terri.
Family was so important to Ruth and she loved having everyone together. She was a great cook and enjoyed her garden. Nothing made her happier than having a huge meal with all the family—complete with an individual, favorite for almost every person! After her children left home, she and Bob enjoyed traveling overseas and many, fun trips to Las Vegas. She also discovered her love and talent for painting and became an active member of the Pasadena Gulf Coast Art Society and served as President in the early 2000s.
Ruth & Bob were active members of St. Pius V Catholic Church for many years. She loved God and her faith, and we know that she is resting with Him in Heaven.
Ruth was preceded in death by her son, James "Jim" Robert Broughton; her parents, Adolph and Gabriela Bezdek and her two brothers, Jerome and Norbert.
She is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Robert "Bob" Broughton; her daughter and son-in-law, Terri and David Hanan (Austin, TX); her daughter-in-law, Sandy Broughton (Clear Lake, TX); 6 grandchildren: Matthew and wife, Jill Broughton; Andrew and wife, Chaundra Broughton; Meredith Broughton; Michael Hanan and wife, Marie Franki; Katie Thorkelson and husband, John; Kevin Hanan. She had 6 great grandchildren: Kaley, Alyssa, Jamisyn, Josie, Ellis and Jack.
