Charles Kay Wilkins, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away on November 24, 2014 at his home.

Kay was born on April 29, 1930 in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the L.D.S hospital. He was welcomed into the family by his father, Charles Henry Wilkins, his mother, Eula Esther Fletcher, and his older sister Ina (Rasmussen).

Kay grew up and attended school in Coltman. He graduated from Ucon High School. He later attended Ricks College where he met his wife Nina Bohi. They were married on August 24, 1954 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He also completed graduate work in Iowa City, Iowa and received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Utah. He returned to Ricks College where he taught in the communications and broadcasting department for 37 years.

He was instrumental in setting up the first radio station at Ricks College, then known as KRIC. He was also a radio announcer at KRXK for several years. Kay loved teaching and working with public communications.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in various callings, including teaching, music and in several stake callings. He also he served twice as bishop. He served a full time mission to the Central States in 1950-52, and then again with Nina to South Carolina in 1994-96.

Kay loved the gospel, loved his family and was adored by them. He also loved music and crossword puzzles.

He served many years in community organizations. He was President of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, President of the BYU-I Alumni association, and served many years on the Rexburg Arts council. Kay and his wife Nina have recently been nominated for the Distinguished Emeritus Service award.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nina Bohi Wilkins of Rexburg, ID; his five children, Kayleen Parke (Jim) of Downey, ID, Lori Ann Morris of Sugar City, ID, David Wilkins (Jeff) of Aurora, CO, Anita Wilkin (Matt) of Perrysburg, OH, and Shauna Emara of Boise, ID, 27 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday November 29 at the Rexburg 3rd Ward Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 at Flamm Funeral Home and Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Rexburg City Cemetery.
