Annie Clair Balchin

Annie Clair Harling Balchin, 87, former resident of Greenwood, resident of Greenville, widow of George Milton Balchin, Sr., died May 17, 2014 at McCall Hospice.

Born February 21, 1927, in Edgefield County, she was a daughter of the late Robert May Harling and Hattie Faulkner Harling. She was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Lander College. Mrs. Balchin retired from Belk Department Store in Greenwood.

A charter member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church she was also the former teacher of the Lydia Sunday School Class of the church.

Surviving are a daughter, Clair (Michael) Harmon of Greenville; a son, Mickey (Pam) Balchin of Greenwood; two brothers, Faulkner (Evelyn) Harling of Greenwood and Bob Harling of Natchitoches, LA; four grandsons, Ben Clark, Eric Clark, Tanner Balchin and Colby Balchin; two granddaughters, Tracy Ewert and Abby Mauldin; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia O'Shields and two sisters, Elsie Rodgers and Erlene Dorn.

Cryptside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday at the Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Alvin Hodges and Rev. Jimmy Tucker officiating.

The family is at the home of Mickey and Pam Balchin, 108 Wellington Drive in Belle Meade and will receive friends at the Mausoleum Chapel from 1 to 2 Monday afternoon.
