Legendary Texan Dies in Paraguay

Asuncion, Paraguay, Feb. 14 (AP)--The man from Texas, George Lohman, 60, who the nomadic Paraguayan Indians called "white chief" is dead. He carved a vast fortune from the wilderness of Paraguayan Chaco and at the time of his death Feb. 10 in a lonely ranch house was said to have 80,000 head of cattle on a quarter-million acres of land.

He came here in 1912 with Tex Rickard, fabled sports promoter. Rickard left; the Texan stayed to become a legend.

Born in Travis County, Texas, he spent his childhood in Kimble County and his youthful cow-punching years near San Angelo.
