Gabriela Blanco, age 94, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010.

She was born April 25, 1916 in Santa Paula to Agustin "Papa Tin" and Cresencia "Chita" Guevara. She was the eldest of eight children and was preceded in death by her brother, Charles "Nino Charlie" Guevara.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Concha Negrete, Agustin Guevara, Roy Guevara, Mary Diaz, Henry Guevara and Irene Tello; her daughters, Gloria Almeida, Elaine Aguirre, and Melinda Zavala; her grandchildren, Elesha Aguirre, Allyn Almeida, Gerald Almeida, Michelle Gordon, Arlyne Almeida, Valerie Zavala and Jessica Aguirre; and her great-grandchildren, Yvette Perez, Fernando Navarro, Sierra Perez, Marley Gordon and Rider Gordon.

Some of her great-grandchildren would call her "Grandma Patty-Cake" for the way she loved to play patty-cake with them when they were younger. She was a beloved Daughter, Sister, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.

Gabriela was also known as "Nina Gay" to a vast extended family as a tribute to her character and respect that she earned. During WW II, Gay worked like "Rosie the Riveter" on fighter planes; it was a story she loved to tell. She also worked roughly 20 years at Briggs Lemon Association in Santa Paula.

During more than 40 years of retirement, Gay enjoyed being a homemaker, gardener, and traveling to her second home in Durango, Mexico. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Gay prayed daily for loved ones. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, listening to music, and watching TV. She also loved to sing and dance. In her leisure she enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. Gay was an amazing woman who made all those close to her feel her dynamic spirit and will never be forgotten.

Memories, Laughter, Love & Legacy A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, followed immediately by the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura. Father Bill Bolton will officiate. Interment will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard.
