He was born August 24, 1896 near Syre, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Oleana Solien. He was baptized at Wild Rice Lutheran Church, and confirmed there by the late Rev. J. R. Vaaler. Growing up on the farm, he attended country schools, and also the Dakota Business College at Fargo, and also attended the Moorhead State Teachers College.
April 14, 1923, he was united in marriage to Mabel Ellefson at Ulen, Minnesota. They then made their home on a farm near Syre where they farmed for many years. In 1965 they retired and moved into Twin Valley.
A past member of the Syre Lutheran Church, he was also a member of Zion Lutheran for several years. He also served on the Home Lake Township Board, the local rural school board, and was township assessor for several years. Otto was also a past member of the Masonic Lodge at Twin Valley.
Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley on Monday, September 24th, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Paul G. Mathre.
Besides his wife Mabel of Twin Valley, he is survived by three sons and two daughters: Vernon Solien of rural Moorhead, Walton Solien of Williamsburg, Ohio, and Robert Solien of Merritt Island, Florida. Mrs. Gene (Lorraine) Krenelke of Fargo, and Miss Yvonne Solien of Lakewood, California. There is one sister: Alma Solien, residing at the Lutheran Memorial Retirement Center at Twin valley. Also 8 grandhcildren, and two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: August, Arthur, and Joseph, and four sisters: Hilda, Clara, Marie and Mina, one infant sister, and his parents.
