Joyce Kelly Hamric, 77, of Lebanon, Tenn., died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville.
Mrs. Hamric was an Oak Ridge resident for 52 years. She taught for 40 years, 39 in Oak Ridge, beginning at Linden School and retiring in 1986 from Woodland School. She was active in the Oak Ridge Retired Teachers Association for several years.
She was born in Pikeville, Tenn., on Jan. 5, 1921, the daughter of Harry A. and Juanita Chisam Kelly. Mrs. Hamric grew up in Bridgeport, Ala. Her formal education included Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
She was a violinist and was one of the first members of the Oak Ridge Symphony. She and her husband, Sam Hamric, were charter members of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church. Later, she joined First United Methodist Church.
Her husband died April 14, 1981. Mrs. Hamric had made her home in Lebanon since 1995 and was a member of First United Methodist Church there.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy Wyatt, and her husband, James, of Lebanon, Tenn.; a son, Kelly Hamric and his wife, Betsy, of Germantown; a brother, Harry Lynn Kelly and his wife, Mary, of Crossville; grandchildren, Tracy Wyatt and his wife, Sarah, Joseph Wyatt and April, Dana and Todd Hamric; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Ken Henderlight officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 tonight, Feb. 24, at the mortuary.
The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 4669, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-4669.
