John H. Heisel, Mayor of this city, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 9th, 1900. He had been ill several months with a severe cold which developed into quick consumption, aggravated by the gunshot wound in his breast inflicted by Richard Ashby over a year ago.
Deceased was born in this city, and at the time of his death was aged 49 years, 5 months and 20 days. He was twice married, and to his second wife five children were born, two boys and three girls, all of whom survive him.
He served three terms as Mayor of this city and was instrumental in the inauguration of many needed improvements for the benefit and convenience of our citizens. Of a chartiable sympathetic and patriotic nature, he made many warm friends who will not soon forget him.
Deceased was a member of and carried $2,000 Insurance in the Knight of the Maccabees, which Order took charge of the funeral arrangements and interment.
Rev. E. E. Bostwick preached the funeral sermon on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., after which the body was interred in the family plat in the Lower graveyard.
We extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
