Enlisted on 11 August 1862 at Otisco Township, Ionia County, Michigan; he was residing in Otisco Township prior to his enlistment at 24 years of age; mustered in on 11 September 1862, Company B, Michigan 25th Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a Private; wounded on 1 July 1864 at Kennesaw Mountain, Cobb County, Georgia; died on 15 October 1864 due to wounds (gunshot wound to left thigh and fracture of right arm) in General Hospital no. 1 at Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee.
