Snefryd was born in Akrehamn, Norway Jan 16, 1939. She grew up at Kaien (the main port in town) with her parents Nelly and Jorgen Jakobsen, along with her younger
brother Jorgen, "Gutt".

When she graduated from school at age 15 she was adventurous and moved up to the bigger city Bergen where she worked in the Hotel industry.

At age 25, she joined her fiancée Sverre Hansen in America, one of the pioneers in the crab industry, they got married at Rock of Ages Lutheran church in Ballard, Wa, Jan 10, 1964, just a few days after arriving in the USA.

She briefly spent time living in Alaska with Sverre before they moved back to Ballard and finally settling in Shoreline, WA where they welcomed their first son Sigurd in 1966, - followed by Norman 1967 and Edgar in 1971.

Snefryd - along with the many other Norwegian fishermen-wives had to rule as mother and father as Sverre and the other husbands were out to sea for long periods of time, which grew the families into a tight-knit community to depend on, and look out for each other.

You would be hard pressed to find Snefryd sitting still or alone at any time with an open door to friends and family. You would always find people there chatting over coffee around her kitchen table or in her garden.

During their retirement, they created a little piece of Norway for themselves in their cabin at Lagoon Point, Whidbey Island where they spent weekends with friends and family by the water. They really enjoyed the Northwest nature, since it reminded them of Norway, and did boating trips on their pleasure boat all around San Juan Islands.

When Sverre suddenly passed in 2001, she sold their home on Whidbey Island and created a more child-friendly place on Big Lake in Mount Vernon where she spent many summers, filled with family and friends at her cabin by the lake.

Snefryd loved gardening, needle point, crocheting and don't forget shopping!

She even took a class in "Rose-Maling" and quickly realized she was great at it!

But most of all she loved being a grandma to her 5 grandchildren. She seldom missed any of their activities, sleepovers were always a joy and almost mandatory.

Snefryd was proud to be Norwegian, her family and friends back home was equally important to her, and she often traveled back to Norway to spend time in her childhood home.

Snefryd is survived by her brother Jorgen "Gutt", her 3 boys and their wives, Sig and June, Norman and Samantha, Edgar and Louise, the 5 grandchildren Nina, Mandy, Erik, Stefanie and Logan and 3 great grandchildren Jaxen, Adalind and Sailor. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts...
