Singer. He was an American singer, born Charles Thomas and best known for his work with The Drifters. He was lead vocalist on "Sweets for My Sweet" and "When My Little Girl Is Smiling" which became two of the group's top 40 hits. Other songs by The Drifters include "Mexican Divorce" (1962), "On Broadway" (1963), "Save the Last Dance for Me" (1960), "There Goes My Baby" (1959) and many others. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as a member of the Drifters and was given a Pioneer Award by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1999. He is the grandfather of hip hop producer Charlie "Bambu" Thomas.
