Music Industry Figure. Keith Grayson, professionally known as "DJ Kay Slay", was an American disc jockey and record executive from New York City. He was a Radio Station DJ at HOT 97, radio station from the East River Projects in East Harlem, New York. He was an influential member of the New York hip-hop scene, whose mix tapes became legendary. He produced mixtapes featuring superstar rappers like Jay-Z and Eminem. He appeared in the 1983 documentary "Style Wars" about the flourishing hip-hop scene. He was known an East Harlem graffiti artist going by the name of "Dez," who tagged the sides of subway train cars. With the decline of the graffiti movement in the 1980's, Dex began dealing drugs, was arrested, convict and sentenced. When he was released in 1990, he claimed to drug free thereafter. He later became a producer. His first mixed tape was released in 1994 and he released over 500 mixtapes in ten years. His debut album in 2003, "The Streetsweeper, Vol. 1" was the first marketed to a national audience and featured artists such as Nas, Eminem, and 50 Cent. He is also associated with artists such as Busta Rhymes, Ghostface, Gret Street, Papoose, Uncle Murda, and others. His radio show, "The Drama Hour," allowed him to interview countless hip hop stars and many disputes between rappers were discussed. He released his third studio album, "More Than Just a DJ" in 2010 and "Rhyme or Die" in 2015. In 2013 "About That Life" debuted and peaked at #54 on the Hot R&B Hip-Hop Songs chart which made it one of his most successful singles. The song featured Fabolous, T-Pain, Rick Ross, Nelly and French Montana. In 2021, DJ Kay Sly released the track "Rolling 10 Deep" featuring 110 hip hop artists.
