Leona was a graduate of Turkey Hill, a one room 1-8 grade school she proudly told everyone about, and Marietta Senior High School.
She married James A. Slatzer, and they had two daughters, Sheila M. (Larry) Slatzer-Rose, and Saundra S. (Dennis) Bragg. She had five grandchildren: Athena (Jess) Miller-White, Lance R. (Stephanie) Rose, Mandy (Jared) Rose-Jenkins, Kaitlyn (Doug) Rose-Edlebrock, and Cody Slatzer-Rose; and 9 great grandchildren, Jacob, Robert, Zander, and Josiah White, Mable and Piper Rose, Porter and Raylen Jenkins, and Zoey Edlebrock. She is survived also survived by her brother, Nelson (Ella) Benedict.
Leona worked for many years at State Farm as an accountant and bookkeeper before she retired.
Services will be held at 12pm on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Brucker Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, OH 43055. Family will greet friends from 5-7pm on Friday, March 5, 2021 and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Leona will be laid to rest at Newark Memorial Gardens Mausoleum beside her husband, James Slatzer. Brucker and Kishler reminds guests to wear a mask and practice social distancing during their visit to the funeral home.
In addition to her parents, Leona is preceded in death by her husband, James; daughter, Saundra; son-in-law, Larry; and siblings, Ronald Benedict, Paul Benedict, and Bonnie Decker.
