US Congressman. He was elected to represent two different Pennsylvania Congressional Districts in the United States House of Representatives on two different occasions. He was first elected as an Opposition Party candidate to represent the 3rd District, serving from 1855 to 1857, then as a Republican the 4th District, serving from 1859 to 1861. He was appointed to be the director of the United States Mint in Philadelphia in 1866, but only served 6 month at the post, his nomination being rejected by Congress.
