He was a journeyman tailor and lived at 17 Claremont Walk, Chester. He died aged 65 yrs. At the inquest his daughter Emma said that her father had been in delicate health for 6 months. On the Friday night he went out for a walk about 6.50 and said he would return at 8, but he never returned. He was found sitting down near the door of the Kaleyards Infant School, with blood issuing from his nose and mouth. He was taken to the infirmary, where he died shortly after. The verdict at the inquest was he died from apoplexy (stroke). He was buried on the 3rd November 1885 in a common grave.
