DEATH OF THE EARL OF ERROLL
The Earl of Errol died on Wednesday night at Slains Castle, Aberdeenshire. The deceased was the 18th earl, his mother being Lady Elizabeth Fitz-Clarence, natural daughter of King William IV. He entered the Army in 1841, served in the Rifle Brigade until 1860, and was wounded at the battle of Alma. He was hereditary Lord High Constable of Scotland, the highest hereditary distinction in the United Kingdom after those enjoyed by the Royal Family. His son, Lord Kilmarnock succeeds to the title.
