Details from Commonwealth War Graves Commission Wes - Site - Killed in Action in France with 1st/5Th Battalion York and Lancs Regiment. Service Number 6255 - age given on War Graves states he was 22 years old (date of birth 1894) however the inscription of the grave says he was 26 years - the 1911 Census gives an age of 16 yrs (occupation - Labourer) this would make his birth year as 1895 - there are 2 births in the Sheffield area - Dec Qtr 1894 - District of Ecclesall Bierlow (family home was in area of Ecclesall) & Dec Qtr 1895 - Sheffield Registration District - Commemorated at THIEPVAL MEMORIAL
