SISTER MARY FLORENCE HAWE, RSM (MARIE THERESA HAWE), Age 86, died peacefully on Jan. 17, 2018, surrounded by her religious community at McAuley Convent. She is predeceased by her brother William and survived by her sisters Kathleen Kalfas and Florence Lind, nephew and nieces.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation Tuesday, Jan. 23rd, 10:30-11:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 A.M. in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, 515 Mont-gomery Ave., Merion Station, PA 19066. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery.

Services for Sister Mary Florence will be Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the Convent of Mercy Chapel, Merion Station, with a viewing from 10:30 – 11:30 am, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:30 am. Burial will immediately follow in the Community Cemetery.

Contributions in Sister's memory may be sent to the Sisters of Mercy Mid-Atlantic Community, 515 Montgomery Avenue, Merion Station, PA 19066.

She is pre-deceased by her brother William and survived by her sisters Kathleen Kalfas and Florence Lind, nephew and nieces.

Obituary, Sister Mary Florence Hawe

Sister Mary Florence Hawe, RSM, age 86, a member of the Mid-Atlantic Community died on January 17, 2018 at McAuley Convent in Merion, Pennsylvania. Sister attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Hallahan High School and Villanova University.

Entering the Sisters of Mercy on September 12, 1949 Sister Florence was an elementary educator in the dioceses of Philadelphia, PA, Allentown, PA, Raleigh, NC, and Portland, Oregon. She was missioned to St. Joseph School, Summit Hill, PA two times once as a teacher and once as principal. In 1986, Sister Florence served as a pastoral associate at St. Stanislaus and St. Joseph Parishes in Summit Hill until her retirement in 2003. Sister then volunteered in Patient Relations Department at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital until going to McAuley Convent in November, 2015.

Sister's 34 years in Summit Hill formed enduring relationships. At the time of her death, she was in written communication with 40 people from this beloved mission. Sister Florence also spent over 20 summers at St. Norbert's College in De Pere, Wisconsin. Completing her own theology studies, she then became part of the summer staff. With this educational opportunity, Sister Mary Florence became a promoter of parish adult faith formation.

Sister Mary Florence will be remembered for her prayerful presence with the sick and dying, her ministry as the "Angel of Summit Hill" and her many faithful friendships.
