Alexander was the son of John Ross Jr. (1658-1690) and Isobel Morris (1650-Abt. 1700) from Midlothian, Scotland. Alex immigrated to Colonial Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1693 at age 11 after his father's death. He married Katherine Chambers (1681-1749) on 25 Mar 1706 in Chester, Delaware Co., Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of John Chambers (1662-1730) and Elizabeth Austwick (1659-1697) of Yorkshire, England. They were the parents of 10 children. They were Quakers and attended the Quaker Meeting House in Chester Co., Pennsylvania. They migrated to Frederick Co., Virginia around 1716 and attended the Quaker Hopewell Meeting House in Clear Brook, Frederick Co., Virginia where they contributed to the construction of the building next to their home. They are both buried there in the Hopewell Meeting House Cemetery. His will was made on 24 Oct 1748 and he died on 1 Dec 1748 during an outbreak of sickness which included four of his children. Children: 1. Mary (1706-1771), 2. Lydia (1708-1799), 3. Albenah (1709-1755), 4. Rebecca (1711-1743), 5. John (1713-1748), 6. George (1716-1781), 7. Margaret (1717-1811), 8.
