Henry Voigt's death date was February 7, 1814 according to the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Death Certificates Index found on Ancestry.com. He died at age 71. His headstone was apparently re-inscribed at a later date with the WRONG death year of 1811. Also, his name was misspelled as VOIGHT. Most likely, the actual death date of 1814 began to wash away and the '4' perhaps began to look like a '1.' This has been confirmed with someone at Laurel Hill Cemetery. A close look at the bottom of the headstone is the inscription of his wife, Margaret. It is inscribed with "wife of Henry Voigt..." and this spelling is correct.

Biographical information: (from Founders Online Website at www.founders.archives.gov.):

"Henry Voigt (Voight; 1738–1814) moved to Philadelphia shortly after closing his wire mill in Reading, Pa., in 1780. He associated himself with steamboat designer John Fitch in 1786–87 and entered into formal partnership with him in 1792 to manufacture steam engines, a project which proved to be unsuccessful. Voigt lived at 149 North Second Street, Philadelphia, in 1791 (see Fitch and Voigt to GW, 26 Feb. 1790; Eckhardt, Pennsylvania Clocks and Clockmakers,195)."

"Voigt was temporarily appointed chief coiner in July 1792, and George Washingto made the appointment permanent on 28 Jan. 1793. Voigt served in the position until his death (Executive Journal, 1:127; see also Rittenhouse to GW, 9 July 1792, in GW to Thomas Jefferson, that date."
