Tudor Jones Jr., of Atlanta, affectionately known as “Bunk,” died on October 5, 2015. He was born on May 17, 1919 in Cave Spring, Georgia to Tudor Jones Sr. and Jesse Lee Forbes Jones. Bunk was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Katherine Lawrence Jones. He is survived by his children: Lee Jones Dukes and the Rev. John E. Dukes of Knoxville, TN, Ann Jones of Atlanta, Tudor Jones III and Patty Jones of Jacksonville, FL, Calvin Jones and Stephanie Jones of Lexington, Georgia. There are eight grandchildren: Harrison Jones, Katherine Dukes, Andrew Dukes, Carter Jones, Katie Head, Mary Callie Jones, Tate Jones and Abby Lee Jones. He is also survived by his sister, Emmalee Jones Highnote of Cave Spring, Georgia, and also his brother-in-law, Robert Harling of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Bunk attended Georgia Southern College and Georgia Institute of Technology. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was part of the D-day Normandy Invasion, Utah Beach. His company marched into France and Germany and freed captives in one of the concentration camps in Germany. Upon completion of his tour of duty in Europe he returned to Georgia and worked for Western Electric Company. He met his beloved Mary while working in Columbus, Georgia. They made their home in Atlanta where they had all four children. Bunk worked as an equipment engineer with the Southern Bell Telephone Company for many years until he retired as District Engineer in 1981. Bunk and Mary enjoyed many years of friendships established through the ‘Pioneers’ of Bell South. In retirement they made extensive trips abroad to Europe and Asia. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cave Spring, Georgia for seventy-five years. Bunk and Mary were charter members of Shallowford Presbyterian Church. He had many interests in his life; primarily he enjoyed spending time with his family. Some of his other interests were woodworking, reading, current events, Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Tech football. He had a quick smile, a sharp wit, and told wonderful stories. In his life he showed us how to love unconditionally, how to give without reservation, and how to carry on through any and all adversity. He will be deeply missed. Family and friends will gather at Shallowford Presbyterian Church in the Youth Room at 10 am Saturday October 10th. A graveside service will commence at 11:30 at Floral Hills Cemetery at 3150 Lawrenceville Highway. The Rev. Robby Carroll will officiate. Lunch will be provided following the service at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
