Born at number 10 Connaught Place , London , Rachel was the Daughter of Sir CHARLES ALGERNON PARSONS (Inventor of the Marine steam turbine) and KATHERINE BETHELL.
The first woman to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cambridge , Qualified Marine Engineer,Associate of the Institute of Naval Architects and the only woman to hold a Master Mariners Ticket.
Owner of Branches Park at Cowlinge , one of the largest estates in the country.
In 1947 Rachel entered into Horse Racing and spent large amounts of money of buying , breeding and racing thoroughbreds under the colours of Pale blue and Mauve.
After falling out with most trainers in Newmarket she moved to Landsdowne house and among her employees was and ex-Apprentice Jockey named Dennis James Pratt.
On the 2nd July 1956 Dennis Pratt killed Rachel Parsons with an Iron bar over the non payment of two weeks holiday pay.He was found guilty of Manslaughter and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after being caught trying to sell stolen goods from Landsdowne house and then confessing to the crime.
Rachel's cousin , Canon R E PARSONS, officiated at her funeral at St Mary's church , Newmarket which was held on the 6th July and then followed by a burial at Newmarket Cemetery just across the road from the scene of her murder.
