The obituary of James Marion Stallard as published in the Wednesday, March 23, 1927, issue of the Advocate-Messenger (Danville, KY):

MAN, NEARLY 100, DIES

Whitesburg, KY - March 22, "Uncle" Marian Stallard, nearly 100 years old, died today at his quaint home at Colly Creek headwaters in Letcher County after a brief illness. Uncle Marian died in the same house in which he was born nearly a century ago. His mother, "Aunt" Chrissie Stallard, died there also a few years ago at the age of 110. At that time she was the oldest woman in the state. The aged man died alone. Shortly before his demise he asked relatives to leave the room, stating that he preferred to die alone. His wishes were carried out. Uncle Marian leaves many relatives and friends among the Stallard and Combs families in Letcher County. Burial will be on the old home farm.

UNUSUAL CITIZEN PASSES

The death of Uncle Marion Stallard ended the career of an unusual citizen. He was almost a hundred years old, and he died in the same home he was born in. His mother, Aunt Crissy Stallard, also died there a few years ago at the age of 110.

Mr. Stallard had for several years before his death kept a diary of his life. He also wrote a book of events of his life. He leaves many friends and relatives in this county.
