Rita McVay Miller Painter, 93, of Washington, PA, passed away on September 12, 2014 at Southmont of Presbyterian Seniorcare in Washington.

Daughter of Frances and Oliver Floom, Rita was born on October 13, 1920 in Canton, Ohio and educated at Mount Marie Academy for Girls, Canton, as well as Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA. She served in the WAVES during World War II and was a secretary and office manager for legal firms and businesses throughout her life. Her passion was music; she served churches, organizations, and taught piano students almost her entire life. Rita was a former member of Park Presbyterian Church in Beaver, PA and a current member of Lower Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Independence, PA. She also belonged to numerous historical societies including Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all three of her younger sisters: Genevieve Hanna, Mary Pfouts, and Roseanne White, husband, Frank McVay in 1966, and husband Albert Miller in 1999. She is survived by her husband Eugene Painter and his family, her daughter Gail Rackley and husband John, her daughter Lynn Lawlor and husband John, her grandchildren Daniel Crowley and wife Tammy, Jane Schlenke and husband Daniel, Kathryn Romig and husband Christopher, Anne Berenbrok and husband John, Colleen Warne and husband John, Emily Dugan and husband Christopher, and seven great-grandchildren: Daniel and Joseph Crowley, Clara Schlenke, Mary, John, and Charles Berenbrok, and Valerie Warne.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Covenant, 267 East Beau Street, Washington, PA on September 19, 2014 at 11:00. Friends will be received at the conclusion of the service. Interment at the Beaver Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at 600 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
