Mrs Annie H Butler died unexpectedly at the home of her daughter, Mrs Lloyd Taylor, in New York, Friday. Mrs Butler left here the latter part of September for a visit with her daughter, and while there was taken ill. Mrs Butler was the daughter of Judge Rosecrans, for many years a Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Her mother was a sister of William A Beach, who was [prominently] distinguished in the practice of his profession and who was one of the counsel engaged in the celebrated Beecher-Tilton case more than a quarter of a century ago. She was born in Glens Falls.

In the days of her early girlhood, Annie H Rosecrans, as she was then known, came to Utica to be finished in Miss Kelly's School and there formed a bond of friendship with Mrs Schantz of the Olbiston, who was then Miss Graham.

There was a tinge of romance about the marriage of this young girl to Col John G Butler. Report came to her that he had been killed in the battle of Big Bethel in the Civil War, and while she was grieving for the death of her lover, he returned to her and they were married soon thereafter.

Since the death of the father of Mrs Schantz, the late E A Graham, Mrs Butler had been the constant companion of the former. In all of her relations in life with those with whom she came in contact, she acquitted herself in such a manner as to leave a recollection of pleasure.

Besides her daughter, Mrs Butler leaves a sister, who is the wife of Artist Elihu Vedder of Rome, Italy; one nephew, an architect in New York; also two nieces, Miss Vedder of Rome, Italy, and Mrs Walter [Lasv..] of Glens Falls. The interment will be made in Glens Falls.
