Juda (Yudel)Reisel, my GGF, was born in Shaki (now Sakiai)in Lithuania in 1844, named after his grandfather Juda Reizel. He was a rabbi and a teacher in Shaki. He moved to New York in May 1907 (on the "Prinzesse Alice", from Bremen) together with his wife Chaje Sorah ("Ida") Smolizanski. She died in 1916 (buried in the Accacia Cemetery in NY).
He visited my grandparents in Amsterdam in 1917, went back to the US and then left for Tiberias in Eretz Israel-Palestine in 1920, where he died in Tiberias on "tishebov bei nacht", the 2nd of AUG 1922. The cemetery was partially destroyed by the great earthquake of 1927, so no grave has been found.
