Hannes Kuehl Dies Tuesday at Calumet

Kuehl Rites Held at Calumet Friday
Final rites for Hannes Kuehl, resident of the Calumet community for many years, who died March 25, at his home were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed church at Calumet. Rev. A. L. Schieler had charge of the services, which were directed by the Baumgarten Funeral Home.
Mrs. George Shade and Jerry sang "Somewhere" and "Rock of Ages". Mrs. Alfred Boldt was accompanist. Pallbearers were Elmer Schueder, Harvey Jurgensen, George Jurgensen, Henry Behrens, Marvin Fiddelke and John Meyer. Mrs. Harry Rehder, Mrs. George Horstmann and Mrs. John Meyer had charge of the flowers.

Hannes C. Kuehl was born on September 5, 1876 in Tama County, Iowa, the son of John and Helena Kuehl, and passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 1947 at his home in Calumet, Iowa, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 30 days. His early childhood was spent near the place where he was born, and he grew to manhood on his parents' farm. On December 4, 1900 he was united in marriage to Meta Hamann at Grundy Center, Iowa. To them were born six children. After 13 years farming in Cherokee County, they moved to O'Brien County in 1914. This has been his home since that time. For 7 years he and his wife have lived in Calumet, but since 1937 Mr. Kuehl had retired from his lifelong work of farming. He had been ill for the past year with cancer, and his suffering was ended on March 25, at 11 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Meta, his six children: Alice (Mrs. Ed Reimers), Irene, Herbert, Elda (Mrs. Fred Oentrich), Mrs. Helen Reimers, and Lester, all of Calumet; three brothers, Louis Kuehl and Theodore Kuehl of Gladbrook and Julius Kuehl of Beaman, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Meta Lage of Lincoln, Iowa, Mrs. Minnie Barfels of Gladbrook, and Mrs. Emma Henningsen of Grundy Center, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, and other relatives.
Attending the services from away were Mr. and Mrs. John Schulz, Mrs. Harry Lage, Theo. and Louis Kuehl, Mrs. Ed Barfels all of Gladbrook, Iowa; Mrs. Henry Henningsen, Grundy Center, Iowa; Harold Lage, Beaman, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bobolz and Mrs. William Ebert, Hartley; and Mr. and Mrs. George Bern of Westfield, Iowa.
