Son of John and Henrietta, married Jacoba J Pfieffer. He was first employed at the Nashua Watch Company, then went on to become the mechanical superintendent at American Watch Co. in Waltham and was the inventor of the first automatic screw machine in 1871 which increased production of screws to 8,000 per day. He was a founder of the Waltham Watch Tool Company and the United States Watch Company, and held many patents.
