George Duff Green was the son of Samuel Ball Green Sr. (1802 - 1858) and Amanda Bruce Davis (1825 - 1865) wealthy land owners in Kentucky and Missouri. George married Elizabeth Belt in 1875. The couple had three children: Mary, born 1878; Alexander Davis Green, 1881 - 1942; and Lexie, b. 1882, Green was an attorney, and instructed his nephew, Samuel Green Tayloe (son of James Wynns Tayloe and Elizabeth Blair Green) in the practice of law. Tayloe later became a District Judge in San Antonio, Texas. Samuel Ball Green Sr. reportedly was a second cousin of President George Washington.
