THIS IS A NO LONGER EXISTENT CEMETERY. FORMER BURIALS SHOULD NOT BE ADDED TO THIS LISTING. THIS EXIST ONLY FOR HISTORICAL RECORD PURPOSES.
Once located at Passyunk and Tasker Streets in Philadelphia, all the interments where removed to Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania.
Once the burial place for south Philadelphia's aristocracy and over 200 Civil War soldiers, Philanthropic Cemetery was opened in 1835 and closed in 1914. While all modern reports state all were re interred to Arlington Cemetery in Drexel Hill, a news articles dated Oct 5, 1914, states that they were re interred to "other cemeteries about the city". A mixture is most likely true as burials continued up until 1914 and it can be assumed that those with relatives who could afford it, would have had their loved ones moved to a cemetery of their choice. Those who had no relatives most likely ended up in a mass grave at Arlington Cemetery.
