Cemetery is actually in the small village of Lestene which is a part of the Tukums Municipality (Latvian: Tukuma novads)
On 5 November 2000, the monument by sculptor Arta Dumpe "Homeland Mother Latvia" was revealed and consecrated. Granite walls with thousands of names of legionaries killed in the Second World War carved in them surround the cemetery. On the plaque for "The Grave of The Unknown Soldier" the words of Latvian poet and legionary Andrejs Eglitis "We wait for resurrection of justice" are inscribed.
Construction of Lestene Warriors' Cemetery lasted until the autumn of 2003 and on 27 November 2003, "Lestene Warriors' Cemetery" was opened and consecrated.
Today (2012) more than a thousand legionaries are buried in Lestene. Reburial was done by the group under the guidance of Edgars Skreija. They have dug up graves of legionaries in various places of Latvia to rebury them in "Lestene Warriors' Cemetery".
People gather in Lestene in undertakings organized by Latvian National Warriors' Society on 16 March for "Commemoration Day of the Latvian Legion", on 8 May for "Commemoration Day of Victims of the Second World War" and on 23 December for "Commemoration Day of the Christmas Battles". On 10 November, the eve of Lacplesis "Heroes Commemoration Day", a torchlight procession takes place in Lestene and many youths take part in it.
