Thomas Jefferson Thompson
Was the son of Jacob Thompson a Choctaw. He was born in Mississippi on February 11,1838. He traveled to Indian Territory in one of the later movements of Chickasaws and Choctaws across the Trail of Tears when he was 13 years old with his older brother, Greenwood Thompson, who was 15 at the time. The brothers traveled with a band of Harkins, Nails and Folsom's.
Thomas entered the Chickasaw Manual Labor School, later called the Chickasaw Male Academy and still later the Harley Institute. The school was located near the town of Tishomingo Indian Territory. He finished school there and taught mathematics for two years. He then married Lena Bynum daughter of (Turner Bynum & Lucinda Dyer)on December 11,1863. The couple had three children Thomas Benjamin Thompson born May 20,1865,George Thompson born June 6,1866 and Mary Frances Thompson born November 19,1867. Mary and George died just after birth AS Did Lena his beloved wife.

In 1868 Thomas Jefferson married Lousina Jane Harkins, the daughter of David Folsom Harkins and Isabelle Nail. They had two sons, Green and Jacob Loren Thompson.
Thomas was very active in the Masonic Lodge,also the Sheriff of Tishomingo County,Chickasaw Nation later the Court clerk for Overton "Sobe" Love husband of his sister in-law Martha Bynum.
Thomas died in January,1875 and was buried on his ranch in the town of Teller, during the construction of Lake Texhoma his remains and those of his wife Lena and children were moved to Teller Cemetery. His tombstone was broken into pieces when a tree grew up from his grave. The broken tombstone was repaired through the efforts of his gg,Grandson John D. Cole Jr.
The Tombstone then was dedicated to John Cole's Uncle Thomas Oakley Gale,a WWII POW and his Mother,Oklahoma State Senator Helen TeAta Cole and Thomas Benjamin Thompson the son of Lena Bynum and Thomas J. Thompson.
The Tombstone was reset in the Teller Cemetery on June 28, 2011. Revered Lee Frazier an Chickasaw Elder provided the blessing in the Chickasaw language. The Chickasaw Nation Preservation Program reset the tombstone as family and friends looked on.
