Ruth was the daughter of Harry Watterson Ennis and Martha "Mattie" Tarrence. Ruth worked many years at the Park City Daily News. Ruth was married to Earl Martin on 27 June 1928 in Sumner County, Tennessee and they were the parents of Robert Jerry Martin (Dora Jean) and the grandparents of 2 grandchildren;Robert Earl Martin and Cassandra Martin.

Ruth Basham Ennis and her twin, Ruby Bradburn Ennis; they got their middle names from two lawyers friends of their parents.
