Bruce Bylander, 89, of Eau Claire, died at Sacred Heart Hospital on October 23, 2007.

Bruce was born on March 10, 1918 to Henning and Anelia (Bylund) Bylander. He married Clara Elizabeth Lucia on May 16, 1942 in Washington D.C.

Bruce spent his life in the field of education. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree here in Eau Claire, his Master's Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota with additional education at Rutgers University and San Jose State University.

After teaching high school in Argyle, Minnesota, he came back to Eau Claire, taught 6th grade for six years at Boyd Elementary School and then served as principal of Arlington Heights and other elementary schools for 25 years until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of NEA, WEA, State and National Elementary Principals Association and also served on the Board of Directors of The Teachers' Credit Union.
He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the South Pacific as a Captain in the Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 305. He was an active member of Moose Lodge #1408.
A long time member of Lake Street Methodist Church, he served as church school superintendent, chairman of the Official Board, and a member of the Board of Trustees.

In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, dancing and playing cards.

Bruce is survived by: his wife, Clara Elizabeth (Lucia) Bylander; daughter, Kathryn Bylander Oatney; son, James Bylander, son, Charles Bylander, 8 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Anita Harings who lives in Tucson, Arizona with son, John.

Services for Bruce will be on Saturday, October 27, 2007 at 11: 00 a.m. at Lake Street United Methodist Church, 337 Lake Street, Eau Claire, with the Reverend Graham West officiating. Family and friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Inurnment in the Columbarium at Forest Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Bruce's name to Lake Street United Methodist Church.
