James Floyd (Jimmie) Bartee Jr. was the son of James Floyd Bartee and Myrtie Laura Sanderson.

He was a graduate of Patti Welder High School and Victoria Junior College.

In December 1942 he enlisted in the Army. He became a 2nd Lt. in the Army Air Corp and a Fighter Pilot for the 315th Fighter Group, 324th Fighter Squadron during WWII.

After the war he married longtime sweetheart O'Willa Fay O'Bryant in 1946. This union produced four children, James Floyd III, Rebecca Ann, Paula Lynn, and John Robert. All were born in Victoria, Texas. The family lived in Victoria, then moved permanently to Corpus Christi.

At the time of his death he was employed by Lew Williams Chevrolet of Corpus Christi. He active in the Masonic Lodge, attaining the 32nd Degree level in Scottish and was a Royal Arch Mason through the York Rite. He was also a Shriner and member of the Alzafar Shrine Temple of San Antonio, Texas. He was buried with his Masonic Apron with Masonic Graveside Rites in Victoria, Texas.

He was a long time member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.
