Rita M. Gaertner of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Covenant-Cooper. Age 84 years. Rita M. Maxwell was born February 24, 1924 in Auburn, Michigan the daughter of the late Bernard and Zelima (Valliancourt) Maxwell. She married Carl H. Gaertner Sr., September 6, 1947. He passed away June 22, 2007. She was employed as a Certified Dental Technician and was a member of the Kings daughters. She and her husband enjoyed travelling, driving to all of the continental United States, Alaska and most of the Canadian Provinces. Surviving are two children, Carl H. Gaertner Jr. and his wife Rosalie, Lake Leelanau, MI; Deborah and Neil Langworthy, Holland, MI; six grandchildren and their spouses, Julie Gaertner, Seattle, WA; Pauline Gaertner, Ferndale, MI; Anna Langworthy, Holland, MI; Patricia and Andy Saltarelli, Mt. Pleasant, MI; Allison and Matthew Case, St. Louis, MO; Jonathan and Sarah Langworthy, Portage, MI; five great grandchildren, Madeline Saltarelli, John Phineas Saltarelli, Jack LeRoy, Noah Carl Case and Elijah Case; a sister, Bernadine Pepera, Saginaw, MI; a brother-in-law, Al Schaper; a niece and her husband, Barbara and Don Banaszek. Three sisters, Cecelia Fox, Joan Nowaczyk, and Denise Schaper have predeceased her. The funeral service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2008, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Chaplain Douglas Bassett will officiate with burial cremation to follow. Friends may call at the chapel from 1:00 p.m. Friday until the time of the funeral service.
