MATERA, Francis A. Sr. 87, of Safety Harbor went to Heaven March 15, 2012. He was an American comic strip artist best known for the King Features Syndicate adventure strip "Steve Roper and Mike Nomad" from 1984-2004. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII aboard the USS August where he drew a portrait of President Harry Truman on escort, which was signed and dated. He is predeceased by his wife Patricia. He is survived by three sons, Fran Jr. (Sally), Chris (Debbie), Guy; and four grandchildren, Ana Thornsberry (Tom), Adrian, Carly and Joey Matera. www.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Fran_Matera.
