Rev. Lawrence E. Funderburk, 91, of Indian Trail, passed away March 10, 2012. Rev. Funderburk served in numerous churches throughout his career and held many revivals in the Carolinas. He retired as pastor of Mount Harmony Baptist Church after 29 years. Rev. Funderburk was active in organizing the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Indian Trail. Lawrence was well known for his poems, his woodcarvings and could make a stick sprout. He loved his family, was a wonderful father; and truly lived what he believed.
Rev. Funderburk was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Mable Starnes. He is survived by his children; Dianne (Jerry) Kennedy of Mint Hill and Charles (Mary) Funderburk of Ocean Isle, NC, his grandchildren; Kimberly and Kevin Kennedy, great grandson; Derrick Goff and brother, Bill (Betty Jo) Funderburk.
A service to celebrate Rev. Funderburk's life will be held Monday, March 12, 2012 at 12:00pm at Mount Harmony Baptist Church 2817 Mount Harmony Church Rd. Matthews, NC 28105. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Indian Trail City Cemetery.
