MARY ANNE ROSSENBACH

Mary Anne Rossenbach, of Harlingen, Texas, formerly of Springview, Nebraska, died at her home in Harlingen on January 19,2012 at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 12 days.

Mary Anne (Sherman) was born on February 7, 1935 at her grandparents' home in Norden, Nebraska, the first of four children born to Harold and Anna (Langer) Sherman.

Her childhood years were spent on the ranch in the canyons southwest of Norden. She attended small one room country schools through the eighth grade and then went to high school at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance, Nebraska, graduating at the top of her class in 1952. At the Academy, she especially enjoyed participating in the music program, winning many awards for her vocal solos. She especially loved singing "Ava Maria", and singing in the choir at St. Agnes Catholic church in Norden.

On December 29, 1952, Mary Anne and Donald Rossenbach were united in marriage at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine, Nebraska. Their first home was an 8X26 foot trailer in an Aurora, Colorado trailer park. They lived there until Don's discharge from the Air Force in September of 1953 at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. They then returned to the Norden, Nebraska area where they assisted in the operation of the John Rossenbach ranch. They purchased an adjoining ranch in 1956 and combined the two where they lived, worked and raised their family until 1975. At that time they moved to Springview, Nebraska, where Mary Anne was employed as bookkeeper for the Keya Paha County Coop. Mary Anne opened the Springview Mini Mall in 1985, and operated that until 1994. During this time she also assisted with the printing and publishing of the Springview Herald which they owned from October 31, 1985 to August 29, 1991.

Upon retirement they began traveling during the summer and spending the winters in Texas. In 1997 they sold their home in Springview and made Texas their permanent home. After a time they grew bored with retirement, and in 2004 they opened "Don's Liquor" in San Benito, Texas, operating this business together until health issues in 2010 caused them to "retire".

A devout Catholic, Mary Ann was baptized at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Norden and was a long time member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Ainsworth. For the past 15 years she was a member of St. Anthony's in Harlingen.

Never one to shy away from hard work, she was active in all aspects of the farm and ranch life, as well as keeping an immaculate home, all the while cooking and baking wonderful meals for her husband and four growing children. Even after her family was raised, she continued this work ethic in all of her endeavors. She took great pride in making a comfortable home for her family. She especially enjoyed her new home on the golf course in Cotton Wood XXI. Golfing was her favorite sport, followed by her love of playing cards and entertaining friends.

Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include husband Donald of Harlingen, Texas; sons Dennis Rossenbach of Fargo, North Dakota, Roger Rossenbach of Emmitt, Idaho, John (Connie) Rossenbach of Ainsworth; daughter Denise (Tim) Anderson of Twin Valley, Minnesota; sister Loretta (Ron) Melcher; brothers George (Marie) Sherman, Bill (Roberta) Sherman; sister-in-law Mary Lou Kerr, all of Valentine, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many, many dear friends.
