Ethel Ellen Abernathy, 62, of Belvidere, IL died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.

Born Jan. 4, 1950, in Kewanee, IL daughter of James and Irma (nee Damar) Branson. Married Wayne Abernathy on June 1, 1991, in Poplar Grove, IL. Worked for the Illinois Tollway for 17 years. Ethel was a lifelong member of the VFW, enjoyed cooking, baking, and putting puzzles together.

Survivors include her loving husband, Wayne; daughter, Tonia (Andy) Henning of Dallas, TX; son, Bryan Hicks of Belvidere, IL; sister, Dollie Branson of Moultree, GA; brother, Harold (Marge) Branson of Belvidere, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her parents; sisters, Carol Evans, Millie Bakken and Kaye Joliff; brothers, Wayne, Donald and Edward Branson.

There will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A light dinner reception in celebration of Ethel E. Abernathy's life from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at the Belvidere VFW. All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Arrangements entrusted to Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere.
