The funeral will be today (Saturday) at 2:00 at Rehobeth Church for Myrtle Ruth Vaughn, who died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at the age of 96.

Originally from Guntersville, Mrs. Vaughn lived at Alder Springs. She was known as Mama, Mama Vaughn, Momaw and Bon-Bon to many children spanning her decades. Her passion was babysitting and homemaking. She kept many children along with her own grandchildren through the years, treating them all as though they were her very own.

At times she would keep as many as seven children.

She was born in Georgia on Dec. 1, 1920, to Robert Lee and Mamie Louise Williams. She met her husband Luther “Luke” Vaughn after moving to Guntersville with her family. She was married to Luther for 54 years until his death in 1990.

They had seven children which prospered to 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren, with one more on the way.

She lived in Douglas, Georgia; Warrenton; Alder Springs; Guntersville; and once again in Alder Springs. She was a housewife to a farmer and carpenter, a godly mother to her children, a grandmother to many, and a friend to most everyone she met.

She is survived by three sons, a daughter, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She will lie in state for an hour before the service. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Carr Funeral Home directing.
