Mrs. Davis, the wife of Peter Davis, the television producer, was fatally injured when one of two cabs that had collided at the intersection of West Fourth and Charles Street mounted the sidewalk and struck her, according to investigators.
The impact hurled Mrs. Davis into a mailbox, the police said, inflicting a head injury. She was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Vincent's Hospital. Her son, Timothy, was not injured in the accident, which occurred at 6 P.M. outside the victim's residence at 63 Charles Street.
According to the police, one of the two cabs that collided in the intersection had failed to observe the stop sign. The driver was given a summons, and the police said an investigation was continuing to determine whether additional charges would be filed. From The New York Times online.
